Hello and Welcome to my website Reno Reading Tutor! On this, my first blog post on my first website, I will endeavor to share with you some tips to help you as you guide your child on their journey to becoming a reader. Of course, I am also available to tutor your child on a one-to-one basis. My contact info can be found on this website.
First and foremost, you and I must strive to make learning to read a fun adventure for your child! As anyone who has spent any amount of time with a young child knows, kids are motivated by fun! If your child has already come to see reading as a frustrating struggle, we will have to work doubly hard to change their mind! If you approach reading with an upbeat attitude, chances are greater that your child will too.
There are some skills which are prerequisite for reading: letter identification, letter sounds, and story recall are a good place to start. These are skills which most pre-schools work on, but you can reinforce them by working on them at home.
I won't go further into the skills needed for reading; I'm hoping you'll follow my blog posts for that. Just think of me as your cheerleader, for I truly desire to boost your belief that you can be an important teacher for your child.
If the time you'll need to spend now to help your child become a reader makes you groan, just think of all the free time you'll have when your child becomes a bookworm! As with most things, a little investment of time now can lead to a big payoff later!
Feel free to contact me to ask questions or share concerns you may have. You may also engage my services by giving me a call. My rates are $40.00/hour; for 2 sessions a week, that drops to $30.00/hr. I recommend 2 sessions per week as a minimum to support a struggling reader.
Happy Reading Everyone!
Arlene Llewellyn, the Reno Reading Tutor
